World Religions

Our first task in approaching
another people,
another culture,
another religion,
is to take off our shoes
for the place we are approaching is holy.
Else we may find ourselves
treading on people's dreams.
More serious still, we may forget
that God was here before our arrival.

World Religions
This course explores the religious beliefs of the great religions of the world, with special emphasis on Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism.

The course examines religion as an inseparable part of every culture and promotes movement towards tolerance and
peaceful coexistence through understanding of other religious traditions. Students examine the similarities and differences that these religions have in relationship with Catholic Christianity.

Each religion is studied through its seven dimensions: experiential,
mythic, doctrinal, ethical, ritual, social, and material of art and architecture. Group projects focus on looking at each religion through its ritual and practice. Students have the opportunity to examine other faith traditions - giving their own beliefs new meaning and fresh perspectives.
